Omniaccess is increasing the contracted capacity with HISPASAT for maritime connectivity services in the Mediterranean and the Caribbean

HISPASAT, the satellite communications operator of Redeia, and the maritime connectivity services provider, Omniaccess, have renewed the contract already in force with a new agreement that extends the relationship until the 2023-24 season and multiplies the leased space capacity six-fold.

HISPASAT’s satellites in the 30º and 61º West orbital positions, combined with Omniaccess’ teleport in Palma de Mallorca, make it possible to offer communications services especially designed for maritime settings and to thus roll out entertainment, cybersecurity and value-added services for the crew on board of leisure vessels with a high demand for connectivity (such as cruise ships and yachts) in the Caribbean and the Mediterranean.

The maritime connectivity sector reached revenues of nearly 1 billion euro in 2020, though this figure is expected to double by 2030. Likewise, the demand for capacity is expected to increase eight-fold between now and 2030, especially on leisure and passenger transportation vessels -such as cruise ships, ferries and yachts-, as travelers are increasingly using the broadband services available on board for entertainment and on-demand video applications.
