Intellian’s ARC-M4 Block 1 Receives WGS Certification and JETDAS Nomenclature

Intellian Technologies Inc., the leading global technology and solutions provider for resilient satellite communications, has successfully completed Phase III Wideband Global SATCOM (WGS) testing on its ARC-M4 Block 1 multi-band, multi-orbit, multi-mission, multi-role terminal. The ARC-M4 Block 1 terminal supports simultaneous operation of X- and MIL Ka-bands on WGS.

The ARC-M4 Block 1 terminal is identified as the AN/USC-75 in the Joint Electronics Type Designation Automation System (JETDAS).

The WGS certification has no caveats, which means that the terminal may operate without predetermined limitations on both X- and Ka-bands for the Navy and WGS coalition members.

For allied and coalition forces, WGS connectivity is a critical aspect of a resilient communications strategy. The WGS constellation provides global coverage, and is bolstered through high security standards, high throughput capacity, high availability, and multi-national interoperability.

The ARC-M4 Block 1 terminal has already received certification on SES O3b mPOWER, Inmarsat CAT IV, and XTAR constellations, giving it unprecedented levels of mission flexibility and its users operational high-capacity flexibility.

All bands are electronically switchable, for government and commercial frequencies, and across all MEO, GEO, and HEO orbits.

Intellian’s Intelligent Mediator, Type 2 (IM8 T2) was a significant RF component that is part of the overall certification suite. It provides for both terminal and waveform mediation. It provides complex blockage zone mitigation that anticipates blockages and automatically switches between port and starboard terminals and below-deck waveforms to ensure continuity of service. The IM8 T2 supports up to 8 concurrent terminals and 8 concurrent waveforms simultaneous.

The ARC-M4 Block 1 is certified on WGS for both coaxial cable and single-mode fiber connections to below-deck equipment, anticipating the breadth of implementation needs of the US Government’s and its coalition partners’ platform dependencies.

The Block 1 is the second terminal that Intellian has delivered to the USG to receive a “no caveat” WGS certification. The ARC-M4 Block 0 (AN/USC-73) provides for a dual Ka-band system.

ARC-M4 Block 1 achieved the highest standards for SATCOM stability and performance set-forth in MIL-STD-188-164C. In addition, the terminal has been qualified against MIL-STD-461G (Electromagnetic Interference [EMI]), MIL-STD-464C (Electromagnetic Environmental Effects [EEE]), MIL-STD-810H (Environmental), and MIL-DLT-901E (Shock Tests, High Impact).

WGS is currently supported by the United States and coalition partners including Australia, Canada, Denmark, Luxembourg, The Netherlands, and New Zealand.

Edward Joannides, VP of Strategy & Business Development for Intellian USA said: “We understand the critical importance that our products provide to the US Government, and its coalition and allied Warfighters. Our unwavering commitment empowers resilient communications to provide mission agility and mission readiness. Obtaining WGS certification is a challenging and rigorous process, and the ARC-M4 Block 1 is testament to our dedication, delivering another state-of-the-art WGS satellite communication solution, reinforcing our support for national defense.”
